Underwriting Team Leader - Specialist Motor

Your Role

To analyse and evaluate new and existing ADA policies and portfolios effectively within delegated authority limits to achieve agreed levels of underwriting performance. To complete and manage all monthly processes and production of management reports for ADA.

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

• Leading and influencing a team towards the achievement of end-results and building commitment towards organisational goals whilst managing team dynamics and capitalising on individual strengths.
• Apply knowledge and understanding of the core principles of insurance and how this is applied on a day-to-day basis.
• Apply knowledge and understanding of the organisations underwriting processes and procedures which are needed for new risks, alterations, renewals and / or cancellations to be processed in an accurate and timely manner.
• Manage the factors that affect the performance of an underwriting portfolio and how risk exposure can be monitored and controlled.
• Reviewing policies and portfolios on a regular basis, ensure objectives and targets are met.
• Ensure that technical and operational underwriting standards, procedures, and controls are complied with.
• Implement agreed underwriting measures to attain targeted loss ratios and rates.
• To analyse and underwrite new and existing policies effectively within Delegated Authority (DA) limits to achieve agreed levels of underwriting performance by providing technical underwriting support and assistance.
• Delivery to SLAs and service standards agreed.
• Delivery of reports and information required.
• Effective communication and collaboration with other BSM departments and Bryte business units.
• Ensure service levels meet SLAs with brokers, other BSM departments and other Bryte business units.
• Implement agreed underwriting measures to attain targeted loss ratios and rates.
• Establish lasting partnerships with key stakeholders.
• Support growth of existing books and new books through underwriting actions.
• Retain business through underwriting actions.
• Conduct Performance reviews as part of management.
• Provide formal and informal feedback to the team.
• Ensure growth is within acceptable limits and company group standards are adhered to.

Qualifications & Experience

• Grade 12
• Insurance qualification or technical qualification (Etc. Engineering) advantageous
• Min 5 years technical expertise in commercial including all commercial underwriting classes of insurance business
• FAIS compliant, 60 credits
• Experience in leading and managing teams
• Proven experience with brokerages, UMAs and a strong market profile a distinct advantage
• Must have RE

Knowledge

• Sound understanding and knowledge of South African Insurance/re-insurance market and global markets.
• Experience with portfolio growth.
• Sound knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements.
• Good technical knowledge and understanding of underwriting principles.
• Sound knowledge of Bryte and its business strategy and objectives.
