Role Purpose The Fixed Income Dealer will be responsible for executing fixed income trades in alignment with investment mandates, liquidity requirements, and regulatory guidelines. The role requires market monitoring, trade execution, portfolio rebalancing, and cash flow management to optimise portfolio performance while ensuring compliance with risk parameters.

This individual will work closely with portfolio managers, analysts, and external counterparties to ensure efficient market execution and contribute to the overall strategy of the Fixed Income team.

Requirements Education:

• Bachelors degree in Finance, Investments, Economics, or related field (essential).
• CFA Level 1 / Registered Persons Exams (RPE) / JSE Trader Exams (advantageous).

Experience & Knowledge:

• 3-5 years of experience in money market trading, fixed income dealing, or treasury operations.
• Strong understanding of South African and global fixed income and their impact on liquidity and investment strategies.
• Familiarity with trading platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Iress, Yield-X) and trade settlement processes.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under time-sensitive market conditions and make swift, informed trading decisions.
• Knowledge of financial regulations and risk management principles related to money market trading.

Duties & Responsibilities Fixed Income Trading & Execution

• Execute fixed income transactions, including negotiable certificates of deposit (NCDs), Treasury Bills, Bonds, Notes, Commercial Paper, and Call Deposits.
• Provide trading support for portfolio managers in Momentum Asset Managements Fixed Income team.
• Maintain strong counterparty relationships with banks, brokers, and financial institutions to ensure competitive pricing.
• Monitor and analyse market conditions, interest rate trends, and liquidity flows to inform investment decisions.
• Ensure best execution practices in line with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines.

Portfolio & Liquidity Management

• Assist in cash flow forecasting and liquidity management to optimise portfolio positioning.
• Manage portfolio rebalancing in response to market conditions and client mandates.
• Contribute to the implementation of tactical and strategic asset allocation strategies within the Fixed Income team.
• Ensure all investment decisions align with mandates, risk constraints, and compliance policies.

Risk & Compliance Adherence

• Ensure all trades comply with FSCA regulations, internal risk policies, and investment mandates.
• Monitor credit risk exposure of fixed income instruments and escalate concerns where necessary.
• Maintain accurate trade records and reporting, ensuring transparency and adherence to audit standards.
• Work closely with risk and compliance teams to ensure regulatory reporting and governance requirements are met.

Market Research & Investment Insights

• Conduct market research and analysis to support investment decision-making.
• Provide insights on interest rate movements, monetary policy changes, and economic data impacting the fixed income markets.
• Engage with investment committees to present trade rationales and market outlooks.
• Contribute to enhancing trading models and investment frameworks within the Fixed Income team.

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

• Collaborate with portfolio managers, credit analysts, and risk teams to ensure alignment on portfolio strategy.
• Provide daily market updates to internal teams and assist in investment decision-making.
• Engage with external stakeholders, including brokers, custodians, and counterparties.
• Prepare trade performance reports and market commentary for internal and external stakeholders.
